NWL and HoPWF Official Internet Headquarters to the Internet Headquarters for the Maryland's longest running independent wrestling league The National Wrestling League, headquartered out of Hagerstown, MD, was founded by Dick Caricofe in 1988, and has held professional wrestling events throughout the US and overseas in Guam, Saipan, Pohnpei, Hawaiian Islands, Palua, and the Marshall Islands. Many of the big name stars you see on television today got their start competing for the NWL. John Rambo became the first ever NWL Heavyweight champion when he defeated Russian Bear Ivan Koloff in West Virginia in 1989. WWF superstar Mankind (AKA Cactus Jack and Mick Foley) won his very first professional wrestling championship when he defeated Rambo to capture the NWL heavyweight title on the island of Guam in 1991. The NWL takes pride in providing quality professional wrestling training at the NWL's Superior Pro Wrestling Training Center, which continuously sets new creative standards and ideas, making it a popular place for many leagues to keep an eye on. The SPWTC is also the home of the very popular HOUSE of PAIN Wrestling Federation, founded by John Rambo on April 1, 1997. The HoPWF holds bi-weekly events in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, along with totally "free admission" events every Tuesday and Saturday evening at the NWL's Superior Pro Wrestling Training Center in Hagerstown, MD.
