Recreational Cross Country Skiing was conducted for several decades on the mining exploration trails at the base of North Star Mountain before the initial nordic trail (Centennial) was constructed. Over the years the trail system was expanded such that now the Kimberley Nordic network is a first class facility consisting of a variety of snowcat groomed trails complete with double track, single track and a centre skating lane. There are also narrow single track trails to accommodate the more adventuresome bushwhacker. These trails, set and not, are of varying degrees of difficulty and length to accomodate all levels of nordic skiers. The modern facility includes a comfortable 1,200 sq ft lodge with washrooms, a racer's warming/waxing hut, 30 km of groomed dbl track trails, a 3.3 kilometer lit loop for night skiing, a 1.0 km lit sprint loop and 6.5 km of single track trails. The facility also has some trails specifically constructed to be Paralympic skiing friendly.
