Langara. Athletics & Intramurals: Soccer (Women's) Langara. The College of Higher Learning. Congratulations goes out to our Falcon PACWEST All-Stars. FALCONS SWEEP WEEEKEND OPPONENTS Saturday saw the women face off against a Kwantlen team that played the Falcons to a 1-1 draw during the first regular season game of the year. It has been a few years since Langara has gone to Newton Athletic Park and come away with three points. The first 20 minutes of the match, Langara held a slight advantage in possession as Kwantlen appeared to drop off quite a bit when they lost the ball. Langara finally broke through on a neat ball slipped in to Amrit Berar who calmly rounded the keeper and slid the ball into the open net. Only five minutes later, Berar turned a defender and found herself 1 vs 1 with the keeper but her shot found the post and the score remained 1-0. Just before half time ,in the 43rd minute, Berar was in the right spot to take advantage of a mishandled ball by the Kwantlen goalkeeper and slotted the ball home to give Langara a decided 2-0 lead. In the second half, Kwantlen applied much more pressure and found themselves with much more possession. Langara's defence held strong and in the 82nd minute, Amelia Brown made a great run and was pulled down by a Kwantlen defender giving the Falcons a penalty kick. First year defender, Olivia Kappeli would step up and convert to give the Flacons a 3-0 lead. It wasn't until the 93rd minute that the Eagles would break through and score off a header. The game would end 3-1 for Langara.
