Description: An introduction to disabled triathletes and the events, rules, regulations and equipment used to participate in a triathlon.
The Website for Physically Challenged Triathletes! The Website for Physically Challenged Triathletes! This website was developed by Matthew Ricketson and Steven Ferrang. We are occupational therapy students at D'Youville College in Buffalo, New York. Following the spirit of occupational therapy, this web site was undertaken with the hope that the information presented within would educate, enlighten, encourage, and motivate individuals with handicaps or disabilities. Our intention was to utilize the core belief of occupational therapy that engagement in purposeful and meaningful activity is necessary for the mind, brain, and body. We felt that our skills as occupational therapy students put us in a position where we could use our knowledge to illustrate exactly how, when, and why participation in a triathlon, may be possible for handicapped individuals. Handicap individuals still strive for self-achievement and yearn for the satisfaction gained through the successful attainment of a goal, maintenance, development of physical fitness, and the chance to compete in athletics and life.
