Marengo Ridge Golf Club | 50 Years in the Making 2002 Illinois PGA Stroke Play Event 2010 and 2011 McHenry County Amateur 4.5 Star Rating by Golf Digest "Best Places to Play" The concept that became Marengo Ridge started in 1963 when Harry Witek, his two sons Bob and Jerry, partners Hillard Leward, and Al Bieze engaged architect William James Spear to design and build a nine-hole golf course cut through the wooded hills between U.S. Route 20 and Harmony Hill Rd. A large, working cow barn was renovated and became the center of the club activity. The first floor served as the pro shop, restaurant, and bar. The second floor was a large dining area where Friday fish fries, Saturday prime rib, and Sunday breakfast became popular attractions in the area. Many wonderful memories as well as friends remain from those days.
