The Boke of Margery Kempe and the Shewings of Julian of Norwich of Julian of Norwich (ca. 1390) sometimes is described as spiritual autobiography, but she probably thought of it as a defense of her unusual way of life rather than a meditation. She does record details of her "profane" life as well as visions and testimony from her sacred life, however, she is not an "autobiographer" or "travel writer" in the modern sense.
