Description:Ridgewood Baptist Church is Southwest Louisville's Progressive Voice of Faith. RBC is a moderate Baptist voice of faith for the community. What does this mean? Progressive faith isn't calcified into a set of doctrines as much as it is a way of life that follows Jesus as our Lord and Model. We trust His way of Love to win in the end and give our lives to following His self-giving example in a world that needs to see God's love more than it needs to hear another sermon. Progressive faith takes the Bible seriously, even if it doesn't always take it literally. The Bible is a living document, shaped in our reading of it by God's Spirit. It is not an encyclopedia or an almanac. At Ridgewood, we believe the Bible reveals the heart of God's love, expressed in the people of Israel for the benefit of the whole world. We see this love at its most powerful in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Christian faith is about following Jesus, not simply believing in Him. Some will call us liberal Baptists. If that means we help liberate people from sin and guilt, that's fine. If the term means we are liberal in broadcasting (like the farmer in Jesus' parable) our announcement of God's inclusive love, that's an apt description. But if this term suggests we aren't serious about our faith, or that we don't take the Bible seriously because we have women who serve as deacons or because we welcome all people, we reject this description. We are passionate and clear that Jesus Christ is the source of new life for us. We are re-envisioning our church because we want to share God's liberating, transforming love to families in our community. We are convinced that it is the only thing that will change the world and make it whole and holy as God dreamed it be.
