He strove for equality and was willing to lay down his life for it. He once said: “I am not a saint, unless you think of a saint as a sinner who keeps on trying.†None of us truly knows how God will call us to live our lives for him and for others, but He calls us to do so after the example of Christ who laid down his life that we might be treated by God as saints not sinners. Once this identity is secure in God, great things are possible, as Mandela showed. That is the witness of Crofton parish, to be enabling us to find our identity and security made complete in God and to serve him with the whole of our lives.
