Pag-asa Medical Missions began in November 1982 as an incidental activity when Dr. Felipe Manalo's family wandered into a remote village in Candelaria, Zambales, Philippines during a vacation with his wife's sister and her husband. A cluster of 3-4 Nipa huts housed several poor families who were poorly nourished and had symptoms of tuberculosis, and no available medical care. Unfortunately, we were unprepared for the encounter. It was a difficult moment.
