Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) Update On Friday, November 8, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) hit the Philippines with a wind strength equivalent to a Category 5 hurricane. The storm cut a swath of destruction across the Philippines killing more than 6,100 people and displacing millions more. Stop Hunger Now immediately mobilized its vast network of partners to coordinate response efforts that would put food, water filters, medical supplies, hygiene kits and other critical supplies on the ground in the Philippines in a matter of days.
