A-3 Skywarrior Association - A-3 Skywarrior Assn. - HOME We are sad to report the passing of Bill Laux on Nov. 20, 2013. Thanks you Capt. Young, for the follow words in memory of Bill Laux. ADCS Bill Laux was a jet engine mechanic with VAQ-135 Detachment Three on board the USS CORAL SEA (CVA-43) during VietNam deployment to the Western Pacific in late 1971 thru July 1972, and again in 1973. He kept us flying and took care of his men extremely well. He attended the A-3 reunion at Whidbey Island on Thursday, August 8th where we met briefly at Flyers Restaurant for a barbecue. The years of working around jet engines, specifically the loud J-57 engine on the A-3 Skywarrior, had taken its toll on his hearing and everyone was having a difficult time conversing in the loud collection of old friends and war heroes. He was certainly one of them. For one stretch, he operated a detachment we had at DaNang Air Base in South VietNam, to refuel and launch aircraft that had diverted from the ship. Bill Laux was frequently sending out photos, historic perspectives and information related to the U.S. Navy and jet aircraft, especially around the aircraft carriers. As a young lieutenant, I learned much from ADCS Bill Laux in a combat arena and considered him a very close friend. He will be sorely missed. Please extend our condolences to his daughter and/or family. May God Bless.
