Description: An organization ensuring that observations and information needed to address climate-related issues are obtained and made available to all potential users. Includes a profile, structure, publications and calendar of events.
NOAA and JAMSTEC, in cooperation with GCOS and GOOS, are currently (27-30 January 2014) holding a meeting on the future of the Tropical Pacific Observing System (TPOS), at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, San Diego, United States. The meeting was motivated by the rapid decline of the Tropical Pacific TAO/TRITON mooring array, and is expected to provide clear recommendations as to how the observing system should evolve by 2020 to improve observing system robustness and resilience, and take a systems approach to responding to evolving requirements.
