There are ZERO mentions of cytomegalovirus or CMV, or of Epstein-Barr virus or EBV, in Chapter 10, the section of the Surgeon General report which expands the bogus list of diseases supposedly caused by smoking. There is also no mention of the basic epidemiological fact that poorer people are more likely to have been exposed to virtually all pathogens, coupled with the fact that smokers are more likely to be of lower socioeconomic class. Given the crucial (and causal) roles that these pathogens have been shown to have in the diseases they blame on smoking, such as
