Description: Tribal profile, timeline, and links.
The Beothuk were a maritime and hunter language group that occupied all but northernmost Newfoundland. They fell victim to the aggression of the French and Micmac early in history. A British proclamation for their protection was unsuccessful in preventing their extinction. There is considerable question as to whether they were linguistically related to other peoples or are a linguistic isolate.
