These early years of the Twenty-first Century are dominated by a kind of universalism which is a strange synthesis of "progressive" universalism, such as the doctrines of "multiculturalism" taught in university social science departments, and the "conservative" universalism of global capitalism. It is actually neither progressive nor conservative. It is a complex system for aggregating power in the service of a relatively small number of individuals.
