Description: Two versions of the Salish chief's disputed 1854 speech, made in response to a land treaty with the United States.
There are two versions of the speech of Seattle, chief of the Suquamish. "Man did not weave the web of life - he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself." It is said that this version was written by Ted Perry and he wrote the speech in the late 70's for a movie called "Home" which was produced in the US by the Southern Baptist Convention. He had no idea that anyone would consider his work anything other than fiction, and he has spent quite a bit of time in the past few years trying to set the record straight.
