Previously dating back to knives made from glass and later hardened copper brass, bronze, iron and steel hardness is a major requirement allowing the blade to cut through materials, but resulting in brittleness and blade breakage. This trait remains today, except in the case of knives prepared using ancient Japanese heat treatment arts developed by the Samurai warriors allowing a blade with hardened edge and spring tempered CORE. this as well as a trademarked tri asymmetrical grind allow relentless knives to absorb great lateral force, as well as extreme hard and heavy use without breakage.
