Simply Sterling handcrafted jewelry inspired by Petroglyphs Petroglyphs are engravings on rock and were carved by the Native Americans that inhabited the area at the time. They are most commonly found in the Pacific Northwest and Southwest regions of the United States, but are found throughout the world. The design was created by striking the face of the rock repeatedly with a sharper piece of stone. Pictographs or paintings on rock, can also be found. Animal and human figures are the most abundant of petroglyphs; but circles, spirals, and other graphics are also found. Petroglyph Beach in Wrangell, Alaska was the original inspiration for this unique line. Many of the rock carvings are slowly fading due to weather, erosion and human impact and they may all too soon be gone. Simply Sterling has designed this jewelry to allow individuals to take home our interpretations of the treasured petroglyphs and enjoy wearing them for years to come.
