The availability of a component or system is the probability that it will be able to operate successfully at a random point in time when required. It is a dimensionless quantity. The point estimate of a parameter utilized in a computation which is not biased by conservatism or optimism. Generally, the mean value of a parameter is considered to be the best estimate.
