Description: Ann Finkbeiner reviews 'Jacobson's Organ: And the Remarkable Nature of Smell' by Lyall Watson.
Does an organ in the nose constitute the seat of human intuition? And the Remarkable Nature of Smell. W. W. Norton & Company. $24.95. et's say some guys announce that cosmic space-time is being accelerated by an unknown energy. Do you believe them? Or do you fling their announcement against the wall? To decide, look at their training, their professional affiliations, where they publish and, most important, at their evidence and what other experts in cosmic acceleration say. On all these counts, the unknown-energy people turn out to be believable. Of course you still won't be certain: believable people can be wrong, and people with no particular credibility have founded sciences. Nevertheless, now that we've formalized believability, what shall we do with Lyall Watson's book?
