Dr. Norman Vincent Peale (author of the international bestseller, The Power of Positive Thinking), who led New York City’s Marble Collegiate Church for four decades, and the eminent psychiatrist Smiley Blanton, M.D., who had trained in analysis in Vienna with Sigmund Freud (documented in his book, Diary of My Analysis with Sigmund Freud). Dr. Blanton and Dr Peale joined to establish Blanton-Peale, where the insights of psychology and psychiatry and the wisdom of the great spiritual traditions come together to address the spiritual and psychological problems of contemporary life. The Institute offers both licensure-qualifying and non-licensure training programs that incorporate a lively dialogue between psychology and spirituality in a manner that is non-sectarian and open to multiple faith traditions.
