Description: University of Leiden, 26-27 April 2003. Overview, venue, map and organizers. (April 26, 2003)
The Leiden Centre for Linguistics 2nd Meeting of the Holland-York Symposium on the History of English Syntax ULCL, University of Leiden, 12 and 13 April 2003 (Saturday and Sunday) At the successful and enjoyable first meeting of this Symposium in York, UK, in April 2002, it was decided that a second instalment should be held in 2003, in Leiden. The aim of the Symposium is to give researchers the opportunity to present and listen to work-in-progress in the field of English historical syntax, with a focus on approaches that investigate the relation between quantitative findings and structural factors. Both areas separately have seen a fair amount of work over the last two decades and the relations between them are also now being explored at increasing levels of depth and precision. The Symposium has grown out of existing contacts between the research communities in York and Holland, who have a shared interest in these approaches to syntactic change in the history of English.
