Now at Harvard University's Peabody Museum, he is a world-renowned expert on the written language of the ancient Maya. Among other fieldwork in Mexico and Guatemala, he is part of an ongoing project to record and preserve the monumental Hieroglyphic Stairway at Copán in Honduras.
