Description: A project to explore the quasi-poloidal approach to compact stellarators. Project reports and reviews.
The stellarator core consists of the modular coil set that provides the primary magnetic field configuration, auxiliary coils including vertical field, toroidal field and an ohmic heating solenoid, machine structure, divertor targets, and an external vacuum vessel. The coils provide the magnetic field required for plasma shaping and position control, and inductive current drive. The vacuum vessel and divertor targets are designed to produce a high vacuum plasma environment with access for heating, pumping, diagnostics, and maintenance. All of the QPS coil sets are water cooled and operate at or above room temperature. Figure shows a cutaway view of the stellarator core assembly.
