Description: Overview of the geological regions of Georgia, the Valley and Ridge, the Blue Ridge, the Piedmont, the Fall Line and the Coastal Plain.
University of Georgia - Department of Geology Georgia consists of four distinct geologic regions, so it makes the most sense first to talk about those four regions separately, and then to see how they fit together. From northwest to southeast, those four regions are the Valley and Ridge, The Blue Ridge, the Piedmont, and the Coastal Plain. All of these geologic regions extend into the surrounding states, but Georgia is the only state south of Virginia to have all four regions.
