Description: Research in Markus Huettel's lab at Florida State University is focused on coastal biogeochemical and biological processes.
Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science, Florida State University, The Deepwater Horizon oil spill will affect most of our research in the foreseeable future. We have been working in Florida’s sandy coastal zone for many years, and the data we accumulated now will help us to determine how this environment responds to the massive pollution caused by the Deepwater Horizon spill. We designed a research program that will help predicting the degradation time of oil in the sandy sediments of the Gulf coast and produce data that are critical for the development of remediation strategies.
