Description: Undertaking research into the structure and evolution of the Earth and neighbouring planets, the detection and measurement of resources in the crustal layer and the understanding of geological hazard.
School of Earth and Environment Institute of Geophysics and Tectonics (IGT) The Institute of Geophysics and Tectonics has a strong international profile in a wide range of disciplines comprising Applied Geophysics, Geodynamics, Geomagnetism, Petrophysics, Satellite Geodesy, Seismology, Structural Geology, Tectonophysics, Petrology, Geochemistry and Volcanology. Our research is dedicated to understanding the structure and evolution of the Earth from the core to the surface. Detection and measurement of resources in the crustal layer and understanding of earthquake and volcanic hazard are amongst the principal aims. Our research is multi-disciplinary and we maintain a dense network of collaborations within the School, the University and at national and international level.
