Zantedeschia aethiopica {Araceae} Calla Lily, Lily of the Nile South Africa. Locally naturalized in southern and western Europe Robust marsh-loving herb with thick rhizome; forming a tuft of fleshy-stalked, glowwsy-green leaves 60-90 cm high, on succulent petioles; a stout basal stalk 1-1.5 m high bearing the large, funnel-shaped rolling flaring waxy-white spathe 20-25 cm long, surrounding a bright yellow spadix. To the visitor of the moister parts of the South African Cape it is a common sight to see whole fields of these beautiful callas in bloom during summertime. They are also found to 2300m in Kenya.
