Veltheimia bracteata {Asparagaceae} Forest Lily Found in the wild in the Eastern Cape area of South Africa, this species has wavy, glossy green leaves growing in a rosette. Rocket-like inflorescences on strong, erect stalks are produced in spring and early summer. The drooping, tubular flowers are pink, red or pale yellow; the forest lily grows to 18 in (45 cm) tall and spreads 12 in (30 cm). It thrives in part-shade beneath trees or shrubs, and also makes a good potted specimen.
