Spotted Nightingale-Thrush (Catharus dryas) is one of the most colorful of this typically dull-plumaged genus of birds. The species inhabits humid evergreen forests from southern Mexico to the Honduras and also occurs in Columbia and parts of Argentina. The bird at right was photographed in March, 1993 in the El Triunfo cloud forest of Chiapas, Mexico with a Canon T-90 & FD 400mm F/4.5 lens on Kodachrome 64 with a Fresnel flash. The camera and lens were hand held on a BushHawk shoulder mount. With its yellow breast, orange eye-ring & bill and black head it is often a real eye catcher in the dark forest understory.
