Portulacaceae (Purslane Family) Portulacaceae (Purslane Family) Purslanes are very familar to gardners, both for vivid flowers and a tendency to spread beyond their allotted space. The flowers are distinctive for having only 2 sepals, and there may be 3 to 16 petals, although the more common varieties usually have five. Each flower has at least 3 stamens and a pistil, and the dry fruit encloses multiple seeds.
