Description: Research project to assess their populations in Northern Canada; development of a photo-identification method; whale sound recordings.
Ice Unicorn : Narwhal Research Project is a new research initiative on narwhals involving several Canadian universities and organizations. The long-term objective of the project is to fill some of the knowledge gaps associated with this understudied whale species. More precisely, we want to assess the size and structure of the narwhal populations of northern Canada. We intend to develop and adapt research techniques for narwhal studies. Involving the local communitee is also one of our main goal, we want to make sure that they agree with our project and we want to share with them all of our results.
