Description: Photograph and the identifying features of this species.
(Berk.) Halling & J. L. Mata Photograph by R. E. Halling &copy, 1996 was originally described from Amazonian Brazil but appears to be widespread over a large latitudinal and elevational range in the Neotropics. The pileus is pale with a dark disc, the lamellae are very crowded and narrow, and the stipe becomes progressively blacker with age from the base up. Microscopically, conspicuous pleurocystidia are in abundance. It can be exceedingly common at the beginning of the rainy season. We have found it in the volcanic cordilleras as well as the Cordillera Talamanca.
