The Greater Ani is distributed from Panama to northern Argentina. It is found in forested river edges, shrubby borders of lakes and marshes and in flooded woodland. It is usually in loose groups and they remain fairly well hidden until disturbed when they fly out one by one and disappear into vegetation further away.
