Plants of Viñales: a pictorial guide - Digitaria insularis Culms firm, straight, simple above base, 50-150 cm, up to 3 mm diameter, glabrous, veins longer or shorter than internodes, papillous, villous, or sometimes glabrous; ligule membranous, 4-6 mm; limbs flat, 15-30 cm long, 5-12 mm wide, scabrid; inflorescence in racemose panicles, terminal, densely sericeous, 10-30 cm; racemes numerous, straight or ascending, 10-15 cm; rachis trigonous, scabrid; spikes geminate, with unequal pedicels, 4-4.5 mm, tail acuminate, densely pubescent, hairs up to 6 mm; first glume smaller and rudimentary; second glume with 3-5 veins; sterile lemma wider and longer than glume, with 5-7 veins; fertile glumes forming a 3 mm sheath; 3 stamens.
