Halling ©, 2003 This handsome bolete, reminiscent of , with a lovely red pileus is known from sites near El Empalme (Jardín) south to the vicinity of Villa Mills in the Cordillera Talamanca. The red color fades with drying and age, and the yellow stipe is essentially glabrous although there are some faint, barely raised ridges on the upper portion of the stipe.
