Description: Information on this vulnerable species only found in arid coastal regions of Peru.
EDGE :: Mammal Species Information This primitive mammal is the sole representative of a subfamily of bats. It is related to a group of fast-flying aerial insectivores. Very little is known about this tiny bat. It has been found roosting under granite boulders and appears to be restricted to the arid and semi-arid coastal regions of Peru. The main threat to the bats at present appears to be from human activity, in particular fumigation of the caves in which it occurs to control rabies.
