Plants of Viñales: a pictorial guide - Aristolochia elegans Hairless liana; leaves 7-9 cm long, 6-10 cm wide, broadly ovate, apex obtuse or rounded, base broadly lobed/heart-shaped, margin entire, leaves hairless; petiole 4.5-7 cm long, hairless; quasi-stipules circular to broadly ovate, up to 1.7-2 cm long, 1.7-2 cm wide; peduncles 7-12 cm long; single tepal geniculate, utricle elipsoid to oblong, 2-4 cm long, 1-1.6 cm diameter; tube curved, 1.5-3 cm long, 0.3-0.7 cm diameter; flower surface with single lobe, widely ovate, 4-7 cm long, 3.5-7.5 cm wide, with apex obtuse to rounded, base heart-shaped, colour dark purple with yellow centre in fresh material; elongated style 6-lobed, 0.6-0.8 cm length, 0.3-0.6 cm diameter, with 6 anthers; anthers oblong, about 0.6 cm long; capsule cylindrical, 5-6 cm long, 2-3 cm diameter; beak 0.6-0.9 long, with a disc below the apex; seeds ovoid, 3.5-5 mm long, 3-5 mm wide, with wing about 1 mm long, verrucose on the abaxial face; linear raphe slightly prominent.
