Description: image and brief description
Tulloss, Ovrebo, & Halling Photograph by R. E. Halling ©, 1996 Originally described from Colombia, this member of sect. is also found in Mexico as well as in a few scattered sites in the Cordillera Talamanca of Costa Rica. The gray, virgate fibrils on the pileus are characteristic. Sometimes the pileus is viscid, but the fibrils are easily seen under the gluten. Chemical studies on Mexican collections indicate the presence of amatoxins and toxic cyclopeptides. A detailed description and discussion can be found in Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 66: 23-25. 1992.
