3. INTEGRATED PRODUCTION PRACTICES OF CASHEW IN CHINA - Liu Kangde, Liang Shibang and Deng Suisheng[3] China has a cashew cultivation history of about 60 years. The total land area under cashew increased to 13,000 ha in 1979 and has since declined to the present 8,327 ha, which is mainly confined to the coastal areas of the south and southwest Hainan. The soils are poor and infertile in these areas with long dry spells in winter and spring and are generally considered unsuitable for the cultivation of other tropical food crops without irrigation. The cashew trees, however, grow well under such conditions.
