Description: An intergovernmental organization working for democracy, economic development and security of the Balkan region.
The Stability Pact was headed from January 2002 until June 2008 by the Special Co-ordinator Erhard Busek, an Austrian politician and author. Appointed by the EU at the end of 2001, Busek is one of Europe's leading experts on the region and served as Austrian Vice-Chancellor from 1991-95 and was Austria's enlargement representative from 2000-2001. The first Special Co-ordinator of the Stability Pact, from 1999 to 2001, was Bodo Hombach.
