Description: Built in 1794, it is the oldest standing log schoolhouse in America. Features events, tours, history, teacher resources, map, and contact details. Located in Maryville, Tennessee.
Come in and sit a spell. Imagine it is the year 1812 and Samuel Houston is your schoolmaster. What was school like in the early days of America? Simpler, indeed...but easier? Not quite. Students here learn quickly that life was hard, but full of fun. We teach students of all ages book learnin', colonial games, and old-fashioned chores like candlemaking, corn grinding, bullet making, quilting, and washboard laundering. School and scout field trips are our specialty and a delight to us as well as the students!
