The Lewis School of Princeton, New Jersey for Speech and Language Programs for the Speech and Language Department’s Summer SAIL Program for Afternoon Education Program courses In December 1993, the eminent journalist and NBC news anchor John Chancellor told the assembled guests that the Lewis School’s Tree of Light had one hundred thousand lights – “more lights and better meaning than the one outside my window at Rockefeller Center, and I’ve done my homework.” When Mr. Chancellor threw the switch, no one doubted the number of lights the students had put up. The school building lost all its power because the tree was drawing almost 120 amps of electricity. Nothing save the glowing tree gave light – “a fitting metaphor that reflects our purpose here tonight,” John Chancellor said with a memorable smile.
