Description: The Sheffield High Energy Physics group is an active participant in the ATLAS experiment, one of the general purpose detectors being built to exploit the exciting physics potential of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.
is the world's largest physics experiment and operates at the 27km (the world's largest machine) located at in Geneva. ATLAS is designed to study the fundamental constituents of the Universe with goals including understanding the origin of mass and the nature of dark matter. The ATLAS Collaboration comprises oversome 3000 members from 177 universities in 38 countries.
