The S/S Calgaric was built in 1918 by Harland & Wolff Ltd. in Belfast as the for the Pacific Steam Nav Co. She was sold to the White Star Line and renamed Calgaric in 1927. She had a tonnage of 16,063 tons gross, 12,703 under deck and 9,014 net. She was a steel construction with 2 steel decks, steel awning deck partly sheathed in wood and steel, shade deck sheathed in teak and 3rd steel deck in No. 1, 2 and 3 holds. She had 10 cemented bulkheads and cruiser stern. She was fitted with electric light, submarine signaling, device, wireless and direction finder. There was a cellular double bottom 475 feet long, 1,898 tons, deep tank forward 33 feet, 1,034 tons, forward peak tank 211 tons and aft peak tank 125 tons. She had triple screws. Propulsion:
