The New I-64 - Missouri Department of Transportation The New I-64 reopened on December 7, 2009 Construction to rebuild I-64/US40 between Spoede Road and Kingshighway Boulevard began in March 2007.  All lanes of I-64/US40 between Ballas Road and I-170 (the west half of the project) closed in both directions on January 2, 2008, and reopened on December 15, 2008.  That same day, all lanes of I-64/US40 between I-170 and Kingshighway Boulevard (the east half of the project) closed.  The highway completely reopened to traffic on December 7, 2009.
