Allevamento Cane Corso Saxellum - Val d'Erro di Renzo Carosio - Selezione funzionale della razza Canecorso HIGH SELECTION OF THE CANE CORSO The Cane Corso has like direct ancestor the "Canis Pugnax" (the old Roman Molossian) of which he is the light version employed in the hunting of large wild animals and also as an "auxiliary warrior" in battles. For years this dog has been a precious companion of the Italic populations. Employed as property, cattle and personal guard dog and used for hunting purposes too. In the past the breed was common all over Italy as an ample iconography and historiography testifies. In the recent past, this dog has found an excellent preservation area in Southern Italy, expecially in Puglia, Lucania and Sannio. The etymology of the name is still uncertain. The most credible hypothesis are those which indicate Greek origins:
