Home | Lucinda EstateLucinda Estate Boutique Vineyard, Winery, Cellar Room in Gippsland, Victoria Wine Release – 2011 Gippsland Pinot Noir We have recently released our 2011 Gippsland Pinot, if you have read the previous post then you’ll already know the 2011 vintage was very difficult, we achieved good sugar ripeness but less than desirable phenolic ripeness, tannins that could potential impart green and/or astringent tannins, also we had some issues with mildews. Consequently we changed our approached to the winemaking, plotting a much more conservative path, firstly we raised our initial dose of sulphur and inoculated the must with cultured yeasts, Secondly lowering our ferment temperatures and finally pressing early forgoing post ferment macerations. The aim being to create an aromatic, brightly fruited wine, with a lighter tannin profile. The wine was matured in our new 2800litre oak tank imparting some nice savoury characters but keeping the wine fresh, a further 1300 litres was matured in six 225/228 litre barrels of which two were new. I have to say this wine has me re accessing the style of Pinot Noir I see myself making from the vineyard. (But thats for another post)
