First Colony Winery is nestled in beautiful Albemarle County, the heart of Virginia Wine Country. Recently acquired by new owners, First Colony is beginning to see some exciting changes take place. In early spring, 4.5 acres of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon were planted. They have successfully taken root and are growing very well. They are affectionately called “the babies.â€Â The renovation of the processing building, which included a new glycol system and the addition of a covered crush pad, has just been completed. In addition, clearing of several acres has been finished to make way for future vineyards and gardens for the public’s enjoyment.
