Description: | The Augusta Sailing Club was formed in 1952 then incorporated as a non-profit organization on July 24, 1953 by a local group of Augustans in developing the sport of sailing on the Clark Hill Reservoir. For over 45 years, the ASC has provided a convenient family oriented setting for the enjoyment of sailing as recreation, as well as to promote the sport of sailing and the development of sailors of all ages. Thurmond Lake, the largest U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project east of the Mississippi River, was built between 1946 and 1954 as part of a comprehensive plan of development for the Savannah River Basin. Thurmond Lake is one of the 10 most visited Corps lakes in the nation, serving about twelve million visitors annually. |
